The centre is keen to replace the state's Governor N N Vohra. Vohra, is currently serving his second term after he took over from SK Sinha on June 25, 2008. Reports said that the Centre is looking out for a replacement for Vohra, who took over amid Amarnath Land row in 2008.

Vohra's first administrative decision was the withdrawing of the controversial Amarnath shrine land transfer order. The order issued by Vohra at that time helped in tackling the anger and rage on the streets across Kashmir Valley. Vohra who took over from S K Sinha on June 25, 2008 was the first civilian governor of state in 18 years after Jagmohan. “Vohra is being replaced by a senior administrator, who has a fair knowledge and understanding about Kashmir,” sources privy to the development said.

Sources said that Rajbhawan in Srinagar may soon see a replacement as the home Ministry is also working on some names which includes some former bureaucrats who have put in several years of service in the state. Vohra had earlier served as Union Home Secretary as well as Defence Secretary. He also served as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister IK Gujral between 1997-98. Vohra, 82, is also a recipient of the Padma Vibushan.
